Publication and publish date unknown

The photo of the John X. Mills cabin was given to the BDHS by Renton Historical Society in August 1984. The photo is dated 1892. From left to right: Annie Lewis Custer, age 12, dog Nero, Mrs. Davis with unknown child, William Lewis, Benjamin Lewis, Margaret Lewis, and Mary Ann Lewis. On the back of the photo is written ‘Rented to David T. Lewis.’

Soon after Jack [John X.] Mills came to Black Diamond, he bought a cabin in Log Cabin Hill behind the town and rented it to a Welsh coal miner named David Lewis. A short summary of Dave’s life illustrates a typical Welsh miner’s life. (more…)
