With the flag lowered to half-staff and a firefighter walking the route for donations, Black Diamond’s annual Labor Day parade began with recognition of victims of Hurricane Katrina and aid for Gulf Coast refugees.

Sixty parade units were judged. Twenty-three citations were awarded in six categories:

Best Overall — Cascade Youth Circus and Summit Gymnastics.

Floats — 1st place, Calamity Jane & Gang; 2nd place, Black Diamond Masonic Lodge District #83; 3rd place, Washington State School Retirees Association.

Individuals — 1st place, American Antique Truck Association; 2nd place, Art O’Neill’s John Deere; 3rd place, Bell’s Angels Motorcycle Club.

Marching Units — 1st place, E Clampus Vitus Drill Team; 2nd place, Enumclaw/Black Diamond Girl Scout Service Unit; 3rd place, Lake Sawyer Christian Church.

Car/Truck Clubs — 1st place, Rainier Classic Chevy Club; 2nd place, Puget Sound Military Collectors’ Club; 3rd place, American Truck Historical Society.

Commercial 1st place, Rooters at Lake Sawyer; 2nd place, McLendons Hardware — 1931 flatbed truck; 3rd place, Horan Real Estate Investments Inc. (more…)
