They were high school sweethearts and their love affair blessed them for more than 62 years.

The year was 1928 when 16-year-old Homer F. Norman asked 14-year-old Jeanne McBurnie, just entering high school from a country grade school, to go to the Puyallup Fair with a group of young people.

Jeanne, knowing that it would not be allowed, thanked him and declined. But Cupid intervened and by the following year they were “going steady.”
