The old railroad section house stands empty since Bill and Mildred Harshfield, its occupants for 33 years, moved from it to their new home. Its recent status of non-use causes people to ponder its future and to recall its past.

Railroadman Harshfield believes that the building will probably be razed since there is nothing in the hiring contract to furnish housing to railroad employees. The wooden building, according to its last occupants, is in need of major repairs. The roof, foundation, and floors all are said to be in poor condition.

Mrs. Verna Norris, president of the Greater Maple Valley Historical Society, would like to have it considered as the organization’s museum if restoration and funding is possible. Mrs. Norris pointed out that its past role in the community life and its central location make it ideal for this purpose. (more…)
