The lack of a drain field, oddly enough, is a key factor that may force closure of a fire station in Maple Valley’s 55-square mile Fire District 43.

A station shutdown could mean some hefty increases in premiums—as much as $6 per $1,000 of assessed valuation—for fire protection for some of the district’s residents.

Fire Chief Dwight Van Zanen has scheduled a public meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Station 4, 16855 194th Street S.E., to discuss the problem and what alternatives there may be. (more…)
