Willard and Hortense Steward were gracious and happy hosts at Willard’s 90th birthday Open House November 26.

Over 100 friends, nurserymen, and relatives attended the Open House November 26 at 23419 Dorre Don Way S.E. in honor of Willard M. Steward’s 90th birthday. Many of those invited had been totally unaware that this vigorous energetic man was 90 years old!

“Many a person of 60 could well envy strength, enthusiasm, and vitality like that!” one guest was heard to say.

The Open House was given by Mr. and Mrs. Alan Reed of Renton, assisted by Mrs. Leroy Willie of Olympia. Mr. Reed and Mrs. Willie are the Stewards’ son and daughter. Steward and Hortense, his wife, greeted and exchanged reminiscences with all their guests. (more…)

During the month of October, when the mines broke all known records in the production of coal, the Pacific Coast Coal Company’s Wenatchee depot turned in one of the best months in its history.

The view above shows the yard office at Wenatchee, with George Glann, veteran of 17 years, and the yard foreman, standing near the entrance. H.H. Boyd is the agent at Wenatchee, and his aggressiveness is resulting in the wide distribution of this company’s product throughout that district. (more…)
