Every morning the engineers at the Pacific Coast Company’s two mines at Black Diamond sound the usual work whistles, the fire bosses go through the underground workings and the men at the hoists get ready to welcome the miners back again.

But the men on strike pay no attention to the whistles and the employees unaffected spend the day in perfunctory duties. (more…)
