Johnny McLean‘s Piston Service boys brought home the bacon yesterday when they scored a 3 to 2 victory over Black Diamond Miners in the final of the George Washington Trophy Cup games. The sliver mug was presented them at the finish of the game by Bob Harlin.
A crowd of 4,000 yelled themselves hoarse when Al Howe, Piston wing man crushed the first counter in. Two minutes later, on a pass from Al, Charlie Minaglia hit the rigging with a shot that beat Libke by a mile.
The Miners came back with a rush and Frank Brennan poked a hole in the net with a sizzler. The half ended with Pistons 1 up.
Al Phelps took a free kick just after the second half started, and as the ball was tricky, Libke misjudged, the sphere going into the net. The Miners came back with Teddy Jackson finally booting one in from a mix.
