This picturesque postcard greeting from Maple Valley was written on July 5, 1948, and mailed to Margaret Backenson in New Jersey. Margaret’s friends, Ethel and Ron, write that they are visiting “old friends from Minnesota” while in Maple Valley and “are having a wonderful time.”
The weather on July 5th was not an inviting one with clouds, scattered rains, and temperatures in the mid-60s, so they did not go to the big Seattle American Legion parade due to the drizzling rain.
Ethel writes, “It is so cool here, 60 degrees at noon, that we have a fire in the fireplace. Ron’s friends have a lovely farm about 2 miles from Maple Valley.”
“There are berries and ferns everywhere, heavily wooded timber, and is a real wilderness,” she said.
Ethel adds that they sure can eat, sleep, and enjoy and closes with “Lots of love.”
