Gala celebration and dedication of the Union Stump, the site where years earlier, in May 1907, the Black Diamond miners organized and formed a new local of the United Mine Workers Union.

A large delegation of Renton members of the United Mine Workers joined forces with members from Newcastle to go to Black Diamond Sunday for a basket social to celebrate the 24th anniversary of their establishment of the eight-hour day and the dedication of the new town of Morganville, which is built on land purchased by the miners and contains 175 houses with a population of 1,300.

Many of the 2,600 coal miners who walked out Saturday night were present. The total of idle coal miners in the state is said to be approximately 5,000.
