The deadline for written comments on a draft environmental-impact statement for starting an open-pit mine near Black Diamond has been extended to Jan. 4.

J. David Feltman, environmental analyst for the King County Building and Land Development Division, said the extension from the earlier Dec. 24 deadline was made at the request of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 10 office in Seattle, to develop new data about the project.

The comments and responses will be published in the final environmental-impact statement, in January or early February. (more…)
