BSA Troop 945 takes a break from working on the Franklin Cemetery in Black Diamond.

On Saturday, Dec. 1 over 20 Scouts and adult leaders spent the day “resurrecting” the historic Franklin Cemetery, located on the side of Franklin Hill northeast of Black Diamond. Guided by the planning and leadership of Dustin Crume (who is finalizing his Eagle Scout requirements), he organized the activity and in essence saved the cemetery from the clutches of nature. Tax relief for Black Diamond’s businesses may soon be in sight. The Black Diamond City Council voted unanimously Thursday, Dec. 7th, to phase out the business and occupation tax by 2010.

The city will reduce the tax each year until 2010, when the B&O tax will be completely repealed. Black Diamond’s B&O tax rate is the highest in the state at 0.5%. The city’s B&O tax affects manufacturing, retail, services, and wholesale business. (more…)
